Ok this is a short primer and should really be 'shapeshifting and me' since it's for my own convenience. HERE GOES
Cadfael was loosely based off Jake from Animorphs because of Sabrathings. Because of this, Cadfael is a shapeshifter! Here is how his shapeshifting works, because it's different from Jake's:
- Cadfael's soul is basically wound around a tiny spark of chaotic magic. You may be able to sense this! It's what makes his shapeshifting so potent, and it makes him (somewhat) resistant to effects that impose 'order' on him - like mind control or petrification. On the other hand, anything that tries to make him go crazy through chaos will do so twice as fast. TOSSUP!
- When the gift manifested he gained one 'free' form. This is a form that he considers, for all intents and purposes, to be his body the same as his human body is his! He doesn't differentiate between them.
- The 'free' form is basically a grizzly-panther. YOU KNOW HOW IN LEGEND OF KORRA, SHE HAS A POLAR BEAR DOG? This is similar, most of the body is that of a large predatory cat, the muscles in the front legs are BEAR MUSCLES, the muzzle is shaped more like a bear than a cat, and the ears are definitely bear ears. All claws retract like a cat's!
- Cadfael is not limited to those two forms! In fact he has several others, old Sabra animals. He has no human forms.
- In order to get another form, Cadfael has to hunt something down, kill it, and eat its heart.
- (This is why he has no human forms.)
